500 OBJECTIONS IN! & CRITICISM OF BLABY DC IN LEICESTER MERCURY...

500 Objections

We are glad to announce that yesterday (and little over a week since we started our campaign) it was confirmed that we have passed the 500 mark. Blaby DC have confirmed to us that they have received 316 whilst we have collected over 200. These are to be delivered to Blaby District Council this week.

Remember we need more! This development must not go ahead!

Campaigners fighting plans for 4,250-homes on the edge of their village organised their own public meetings over new proposals after the council failed to do so.
A consortium of builders – Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, Davidsons Developments and Hallam Land Management – wants to develop land in Lubbesthorpe, near Leicester Forest East.
The planning application, submitted to Blaby District Council last year, was revised after residents raised concerns about traffic congestion, air quality and loss of countryside.

It resulted in a second consultation, which people have been given until July 25 to respond to.
Leicester Forest East Residents' Action Group (RAG) has criticised the council for failing to hold a public exhibition on the new plans.
It held its own two-day exhibition at Leicester Forest East Parish Hall this week, where members of the group were on hand to talk residents through a series of displays and copies of the plans.
Changes to the original plans – to which RAG launched its Time Is Running Out campaign in response – include altering the height of a bridge connecting the homes to Thorpe Astley and moving the site of a planned school.
Group treasurer Adam Naylor, 25, who lives in King's Drive, said: "At the very least, planners should be here to gauge public opinion and help people understand what this application is all about."
Hundreds of residents filed through the doors of the parish hall, in King's Drive, over the two days, including businessman Peter Wilson, 49, of Acacia Close. He said: "The only way to respond to this second so-called consultation is to read your way through a very substantial amount of technical information, all written in planning jargon.
"What chance is there of the public actually understanding what is being proposed?"
He said a new town was being proposed but the council showed no wish to present, explain and discuss it with local residents so they could understand the project and its potential impact on their communities.
A spokesperson for Blaby District Council said it had sent letters to 8,000 households as well as holding regular briefings with parish councils and residents' groups as part of the consultation process.
He said: "While public meetings might provide an opportunity for people who are understandably concerned about the planning application to make their voices heard, they are not necessarily an effective way of explaining often complex technical information and can be unhelpful to both parties."
The council received over 1,400 objections to the original application. It said anyone with questions about the application can call the New Lubbesthorpe Planning Application Team on 0116 272 7565.
